How can I get there?

It is easy to get there from Warsaw. There are many cheap rail connections (about €10) to the nearest city Augustów (here you can plan your rail trip) where I can pick you up and transport within 15 minutes to Athens. There are plenty of cheap flights to Kaunas Airport (KUN) in Lithuania and it is only two hours on a motorway to the Polish Athens. If you cannot use Kaunas Airport there is also an international airport in Warsaw.

Athens (Polish: Ateny) is a village within Augustów County, in north-eastern Poland. It lies near Wigry National Park (Polish: Wigierski Park Narodowy).

The park covers parts of the Masurian Lake District and Augustów Primeval Forest. It is named after lake Wigry, the largest of the Park's many lakes. The Park is famous for its numerous lakes, which are of different shape, size and depth. Altogether, there are 42 of them, the biggest, Wigry, is located in central part of the Park. Main river is the Czarna Hańcza, which crosses the Wigry lake. This river is an appreciated and popular kayaking trail.

There are more than 190 kilometres of tourist trails in the park. Fishing anglers as well as sailboats take advantage of the biggest lakes. The places of interest include a former monastery, where an artist residency belonging to the Ministry of Culture is located.
